Music or art...

Noxolo Pearl Nsibande also known as Knockxy is a young black South African artist. She is best known for her divert music style. Her love for music started at a young age as she recalls pretending to play drums and guitar with household appliances.

Her cousin Vuyo vast introduced her to hip hop in her youth with his vast local & international's collection of records. She remembers how she used to enjoy listening to skwatt camp a South African rap group. She later started an all female rap group with her cousin Jabu and Naledi. The group name was called The Black Beanies. The group used to record their music in a bedroom wardrobe to get clear audio as they couldn't afford studio time. Naledi created the beats for black beanies and Knockxy added a different flavour to the sound. Black beanies created the song "Where we come from", from which they also got to perform on ShiNiz.

Knockxy had to move to Mpumalanga to finish her high school studies. Mpumalanga would be the place where Knockxy saw Mlungisi in church playing keys, she was so inspired by Mlungisa that she spoke with her father and grandmother to help her buy her first keyboard. She practised in church every day after school and taught herself to play a few songs and then got the chance to play at church on one of the services.

After High School she moved back to Gauteng and started her tertiary education at The Maharishi Institute. Where she studied business admin, she joined the drama group, where she found her voice and recalls the song she would sing at the end of practices. After her first nerve racking performance in front of a crowd she realised the enjoyment of singing and took up being a serious musician. She has since formed a girl movement called "CheerOnTop" where different women in music can come together and perform and is part of a band called "BOLD_SA".

Knockxy also performs as a solo artist at festivals, and live event, she has also released an EP called "Experimental Me", the Ep is all about the influences of music that knockxy has being explored, with songs like Mama dedicated to all the mothers who raise us and i love you a song dedicated to lovebirds which she also performs for us at the end of the chat.
